Spiegelsaal Berlin in Clärchens Ballhaus

For all its popularity Claerchens Ballhaus has a big secret, hardly known and breathtakingly different: the Hall of Mirrors or Spiegelsaal as it is called in German. While the main dancing hall was always the meeting place for the well known Berlin originals, hard working little earning guys and their suburban beauties the Spiegelsaal is said to have harboured sophisticated feasts with officers, noble men and students - and their city beauties... However, all this might be part of a legend in which we choose to believe.

This is why we kept the Spiegelsaal untouched, exactly as we found and opened it for the public 2005 for the first time in almost sixty years. It is the perfect location for parties and dinners between nostalgia and the feeling of an acute present. With its old and withered but non the less majestic mirrors and stucco the Spiegelsaal develops its proper atmosphere when lit with lots of candles and filled with people around festive dinner tables.

Seen by day it seems almost like a sleeping beauty dangerous to wake. Then the candles flicker, the music starts in the background and the room regains that ambience of mystery and vibrancy, roaring twenties and 21. century Berlin which is unique and unforgettable.
